Two-legged feathered friend, Zoe
Thimble and Squirt, miniature Dexters

Somehow, they sneak their way into everything I write…

I've always adored animals. One friend says: "If there is such a thing as reincarnation, I want to come back as one of Kandy's pets." Okay, so maybe they're just a teeny bit spoiled…

Cats and dogs were my first pets and still remain my greatest love. As a kid I also had a white mouse I was enchanted with and carried around in my pocket. We went through a bunny stage when my daughter was very young. But then her great love, horses, took over. I always admired horses but was scared of them. Now we have our own, I have come to love them dearly (though I don't want to ride them).

With four horses on our property, we were advised to get some cattle to clear up the "sour grasses" and weeds the horses left. We saw a television program about a not-too-far-away farm breeding miniature cattle called Dexters and were intrigued. When Squirt, a little bull, came on screen and we heard he needed a home, we called that TV station straight away. We also bought his friend we called Thimble. These little boys have big attitude and are as smart as some dogs. (They will definitely be appearing in one of my stories!)

And then there are our gorgeous girls - Isa Brown hens who keep us supplied with the most wonderful eggs.

I've added some other writer's pet pictures and some from readers to my gallery - I'd love to see some of yours!

Cathleen Ross ~ Cathleen has quite the menagerie of pets.  These two exist harmoniously with a dog, two cats, other rabbits and a hen.  Duck Duck is Mr. Personality, and Bennie is the cuddliest ever bunny (he's had the surgery boys don't like to talk about).

Tracey O'Hara ~ They're not related! Sweetums (white legs) and Charlie (center) are rescue cats while posh Crispin is a pet shop boy.
Anna Campbell ~ Not all pets have to be cuddly! This cute bearded dragon lives outside Anna's study window.
Annie West ~ Meet Daisy, Annie's old lady beagle who snoozes in the sun beside her computer as she writes.
Sherrie Holmes ~ Sherrie is an author and editor as well as an amazing photographer!  Oh, and she's an animal lover too.
Christine Stinson ~ Benny the beagle is as lively as when he was a pup (too lively sometimes, says Chris)
Christopher the Assassin
Nova (Doberman) & Asterisk (Boxer)
Tempest and Fancy
Windigo's Tempest
Maxine Sullivan ~ Maxine says she adopted the dogs from a shelter but the cats adopted her!
Simone Camilleri ~ Simone's golden retriever Darwin when he was a puppy.
Suki is a gorgeous little lady who arrived one day and decided to stay.
Ginger was starving and feral when Maxine found him living in her front garden.
Lily has epilepsy and needs lots of love and attention.
Paula Roe ~ Both Paula's cats were rescue kittens - Phoebe, a bitzer from the local vet (hogging the local wildlife's bird feeder!) and Sophie, a Persian cross from a local rescuer.
Dana Wright ~ Love truly is a four-legged word for Texan bookseller Dana Wright. Dana and her husband have adopted nine rescue dogs, ranging in size from a Chihuahua to a Great Dane. "They're my furry children," says Dana. "They keep me busy and they make me smile. However, I think nine is my limit."   Dana, they're very lucky dogs!  Here she is with some of the family.
Dana holding Tadpole, her newest rescue.
Bella is Dana's resident loudmouth.
Chloe the Great Dane.
Hailey is a cairn terrier-poodle mix who is never far from Dana's side.
Spirit is a lab-chow mix.
Marley the hound dog
Linda (Darwin, Australia) ~ Milly is adored and boy does she know it! It's one happy ending for a pup who was dumped at a shelter.

Jacky (Brisbane, Australia) ~ When the heat is on, Chino knows where to cool down!
Mandy Sinclair ~ Mandy works in magazines and adorable Diesel is sometimes asked to pose in a photo. He particularly likes "working" where food is involved!

Tina Ferraro ~ "Beautiful Rascal is named after the hottie character in my first book, Top Ten Uses for an Unworn Prom Dress."
Vanessa Barneveld ~  "Possum is an ocicat. The breeder said she was a "failed" ocicat because she didn't get the ocelot spots on her coat. She ended up looking like a marsupial instead, that's why we called her Possum."
This little Yorkie named Sweetness is "just a bundle of joy" says her proud owner, Savannah.
READER'S PET PICS
AUTHOR'S PET PICS
Tammy Rushing Lynn ~ "Purr and the world purrs with you, hiss and you hiss alone." Anon.

Tammy is a "self-confessed critter lover" and shares her home with these seven enchanting fur-babies. "Please note there's not a pedigree in the bunch," says Tammy. "They're all shelter kitties or kittens from friends. Nothing against pedigrees-they're wonderful-but I love the idea of rescuing animals whenever possible."
Louisa Cornell ~ These are just a few of Louisa's rescued pets:
Anne Gracie ~ Anne's smiling Chloe is a kelpie/heeler cross, though the heeler is only evident in the grey freckles on her tummy. Chloe enjoys getting into the festive spirit at Christmas.
Marion Lennox ~ Marion's Schauzer Mitzi gets into the Christmas spirit!
Allison Stuart ~ Allison is never short of company when she's writing. "That's Toby-on the shelf-and Oliver-on the computer box--closely supervising my work (or lack of it!)
Kim Castillo ~ Kim works with romance novelists and her kitty Max looks right at home in Kim's bookshelf. The pup with the amazing ears is Precious, Kim's Papillion.
Boudeaux is half beagle and half basset hound, and Louisa calls him a "bagel". He was rescued from New Orleans's Ninth Ward, trapped in a home with his deceased owner. "He still isn't fond of storms and will hide under the covers in the bed when he hears thunder," says Louisa.
Tigger and Pooh are littermates who Louisa dragged from under a house at the center of a feral cat colony. "Pooh was born deaf; Tigger just plays deaf! They are very attached to each other."
Frodo the Horrible was banned from three vet clinics for bad behavior. "He growls when he hears my mother's voice over the phone! He adores his Mama, but nobody else!"
